Prominent Italian golf magazine Il Mondo del Golf has recognised San Domenico Golf as a course with the best maintenance for 2009 and also awarded its clubhouse as the second best in Italy for 2009. San Domenico has also entered Top 20 courses in Italy for the first time this year and is now No.17 out of the total of 130 courses with at least 18 holes according to Il Mondo del Golf´s rankings.

Sergio Melpignano, the Owner of San Domenico Golf was delighted to accept both awards. He said: “It is a great success for San Domenico to be recognised by such a significant Italian golf publication as Il Mondo del Golf. The course is in an excellent condition and enjoys a reputation as one of the finest tests of golf on the Mediterranean. This fantastic news comes in the right time for us because on May 12 we opened a new luxury 5* hotel Borgo Egnazia which is situated right across from San Domenico. We are looking forward to welcoming more golfers there and sharing our magnificent product with golf enthusiasts from all over Europe.”

Opened in 2003, San Domenico Golf Course hosts some of the world’s leading young professional golfers each year at the European Challenge Tour Grand Final. The challenging par 72 course meandering between the olive groves of Apulia and the rocky Adriatic coastline is the only championship layout in southern Italy and the only links-like course in Italy. Designed by the acclaimed European Golf Design, San Domenico measures over 6300m and provides a stiff test for top golfers at the same time as being accessible for less experienced players.
