The critically acclaimed Oceânico Victoria course plays regular host to some of golf’s current stars of the game at the European Tour’s Portugal Masters. This summer however will see the return of some of the stars of tomorrow in the Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship, an event that caught the imagination of almost 100 youngsters from around Europe in 2009.
Following on the success of last year’s event the Portuguese Golf Federation is once again sanctioning the event and coordinating support with some of Europe’s most established golf federations. The event welcomes competitors from a variety of age groups for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 18, with competition categories being determined by both age and gender. Kids aged 10 years and over will compete over 18 holes each day, while children under 10 years will play 9 holes on each of the three competition days. We want to make this as fun an event as possible, whilst creating a championship feel for the kids. We have aimed to create and grow an event that will establish its place on the ever expanding world junior golf stage. We are confident we will see the events largest field this year and will see some of amateur golf’s finest youngsters join us,” commented Chris Stilwell, Oceânico Golf’s CEO.
