The newest five-star hotel on the holiday island of Mallorca is offering autumn stay-and-play golf packages with its near-neighbour, the multi-award-winning Club de Golf Alcanada, with prices starting at €147 per person per night.

The new Viva Zafiro Alcudia & SPA, which opened its doors to the first visitors just a month ago, sits in an unrivalled location, just 300m from the crystal-clear waters of Alcudia Bay and a few minutes from Alcanada’s world-class golf course.

The Viva Zafiro Alcudia & SPA has 369 junior suites and suites, five restaurants, three bars, 10 swimming pools – including one indoors – aqua gym, gymnasium, spa and wellness centre, solarium, extensive gardens, and myriad sports facilities, both inside and out, with other sports available locally. And, close by, are the pleasant pedestrianised streets of Puerto de Alcudia, one of the oldest towns in Mallorca, where there is a wide selection of restaurants, bars and shops.

The hotel’s sales manager, Jaume Palou, explained: “The Mallorcan climate means golf is playable here all-year round and we are lucky to have one of Spain’s top courses right on our doorstep. So we were delighted to be able to partner with Alcanada and offer these exclusive packages for autumn, when people in northern Europe, in particular, may wish to escape to the sunshine. And they won’t find many better places to play than at Alcanada.”

Viva Zafiro Alcudia is offering three, four and seven-night breaks from €147pppn. The three-night ‘Wedge’ break, with B&B accommodation in a junior suite, free access to the Balneum Spa, and two green fees at Alcanada, costs €442 per person, based on two sharing.

The four-night ‘Eagle’ package offers three green fees at Alcanada and costs €621pp, while the seven-night ‘Albatross’ includes five rounds at the golf club, for €1,038pp. The prices are valid from October 3 to November 14, subject to availability, and are available only upon request.

Alcanada’s director of golf, Kristoff Both, added: “Having a stunning new five-star hotel open up so close to us here at Alcanada will, hopefully, enable us to welcome even more tourist visitors to the club throughout the year. We were particularly pleased, as the only golf courses next to the sea on the island, to be able to participate in these exclusive package prices put together by Jaume and his team, as we know visitors like to enjoy the sun and sea when visiting Mallorca.”

Alcanada’s 7,108-yard, Trent Jones Jr-designed course has won a steady stream of awards since opening 12 years ago. It was recently voted runner-up in the ‘favourite course in Europe’ category of leading German magazine Golf Journal‘s annual Golf Travel Awards, for the second successive year, having previously attained the number-one spot for an unprecedented five years in a row.

It was also awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating by Leadingcourses.com – the highest level awarded by the website – making it one of just 12 clubs in Spain to attain the level. And, last year, it was ranked the highest-rated course in the Balearics by Golfboo, the world’s first golf travel search engine, and shortlisted for the title of Spain’s Best Golf Course 2014, in the inaugural World Golf Awards. What’s more, it was also voted ‘favourite course’ in Europe for a fourth year in a row by visitors to www.1golf.eu.

Alcanada sits in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia. Adjacent to the Mediterranean – the only course next the sea on the island – Alcanada, which opened in October 2003, blends naturally into the typical Mallorcan terrain and takes its name from an island with a lighthouse, situated just offshore, which can be seen from most of the holes.

Magnificent mountain and sea views and a mixture of pine and olive groves – ideal for the many bird species recorded in a recent ornithological survey – provide the splendid setting for a round at Alcanada and the course is recognised by the golf industry as one of the finest venues in Spain and Europe and is a member of the prestigious World of Leading Golf collection.

In addition, the club boasts a centuries-old Mallorca clubhouse which offers guests the opportunity to sample regional specialties in its first-class dining facilities on a sun-baked terrace. A comprehensive golf academy, including a spacious short-game area and covered driving range, is also available.
