News that Logicalgolf has become an official supplier to the PGA comes as no surprise to members and officials at Son Gual, Mallorca’s number-one golf destination.
Renowned golf coach, and founder of Logicalgolf, Robert Baker visited the UK recently to install the revolutionary training system into the state-of-the-art gym in the PGA headquarters at The Belfry.
And the teaching system was hailed by Dr Kyle Phillpots, the PGA’s director of education and career development, who said: “We are delighted Logicalgolf has joined the PGA Official Supplier programme and to have the training system installed in the academy’s gym. Robert is passionate about golf coaching and has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is reflected in the Logicalgolf training system and it was great to see up close just how it can be utilised in the coaching process.”
Yet members and visitors to Son Gual, just a short drive outside the capital city of Palma, on the holiday island of Mallorca, have been reaping the benefits of the unique training system for more than a year after the spectacular venue became only the third Logicalgolf learning centre in the world, when Baker launched his first Spanish academy in the summer of 2013.
Andreas Pamer, Son Gual’s general manager, said: “We were thrilled when Robert chose to open his first Spanish Logicalgolf learning centre here at Son Gual and it has proved of real benefit to our members and visitors who have been astonished by the simplicity of the system and the results it can achieve.
“We were pleased for Robert, when we learned he had installed Logicalgolf at The Belfry, but not surprised. Our only surprise was that it has taken this long for the system to be recognised by other venues.”
The Son Gual centre is ideal for golfers wishing to improve, whether they are beginners wishing to learn the basics or tour professionals looking to enhance particular elements of their game.
Players of all standards -including Tour pros – have visited Son Gual for coaching while the centre is used for winter training by several national golf teams. The centre also includes a golf gym for improving fitness and a club-fitting facility to ensure maximum benefit is gained from the enhanced performance.
Golf professional Tim Holroyd, who runs the Logicalgolf centre at Son Gual, said: “The location of the centre, at a championship venue like Son Gual, is perfect. It means that not only can we host intensive sessions for amateurs, but professionals can also come here and feel comfortable because the course is comparable with many Tour venues.”
Created by South African professional Baker, Logicalgolf is a complete training system – the teaching aids helping to visualise and feel the golf swing. Even coordination, technique, flexibility and strength can be trained effectively with the gym solutions, enabling golfers to work on conditioning and specific muscle memory during the training session. This holistic training approach, specifically tailored to golf, unites the technical aspects of the game and fitness in a revolutionary way.
The PGA Academy’s sports science team will receive training in the system by specialists from Munich-based Logicalgolf, which coaches can then employ in their teaching irrespective of their coaching method.
Listed as the eighth-best course in Spain and the top venue in Mallorca in Golf World’s benchmark Top 100 Courses in Continental Europe 2014 rankings, the €30m Thomas Himmel-designed Son Gual has received many admirers and accolades since opening in 2007.
