In recognition of extraordinary efforts during the pandemic, the global golf tourism organisation IAGTO has awarded the La Cala Resort in Mijas, southern Spain with an Outstanding Service Award.

At their 21st annual awards, IAGTO took the opportunity to focus on rewarding the most extraordinary efforts made by those in the golf industry during the pandemic. All 2,500 IAGTO member companies were invited to nominate companies and organizations that offered unparalleled support and service during these challenging times.

La Cala received an Outstanding Service Award for going “above and beyond what was required, putting the golf traveller first and looking after their industry partner relationships despite such difficult circumstances.”

La Cala Resort has worked incredibly hard over the last two years to welcome guests when, and from where possible and to offer them the highest levels of service during their time at the resort.

In addition, La Cala has looked to the future and used the time advantageously to complete significant and impressive course improvements. The resort finalised renovation works on the stunning Europa Course, as well as putting finishing touches to works on the beautiful Asia course.

“We are very proud to receive this Outstanding Service Award from IAGTO,” said Sean Corte-Real, Director of La Cala Resort. “We have continued to offer the best levels of hospitality possible within ever-changing regulations. We have looked to make improvements to our golf course portfolio and to ensure all off-course facilities are of the highest standard, both for the guests we have welcomed through the pandemic and for those we welcome in the future.”

IAGTO Chief Executive, Peter Walton, said “There was no doubt that we needed to take a different approach to the Awards this year and giving the industry the opportunity to highlight cases of exceptional service delivered by their business partners proved to be a real shot-in-the-arm for everyone involved.”

Situated in the foothills of the beautiful Mijas Mountains with breath-taking views of the stunning Andalusian countryside, La Cala’s superb 54-hole resort offers an idyllic rural etreat just 20 minutes from Marbella and only 30 minutes from Malaga airport.

The three superb championship courses at La Cala – Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa – each present unique challenges and slot seamlessly into a natural, undulating backdrop of trees and flowers, rich with birds and wildlife. Designed by famous golf course architect Cabell Robinson, each 18-hole layout has been created to ensure a truly exhilarating experience.

La Cala resort boasts accommodation of the highest standard, including a renovated 107-bedroom hotel, plus a selection of on-site properties for sale and rental. Residents can enjoy the luxurious spa and a selection of excellent restaurants and bars. There are also further leisure opportunities with a FIFA-standard football pitch, running circuit, gym, tennis and squash courts.

Nestled between the arresting beauty of the Sierra de Mijas Natural Park and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, La Cala is a genuine haven of tranquillity. It’s the perfect base for exploring Andalusia and Spain’s fascinating cultural cities like Granada, Seville and Malaga.
