La Cala Resort has been recognised as a 2020 Travelers’ Choice award winner. Based on a full year of Tripadvisor reviews the award recognises outstanding traveller feedback, placing La Cala in the top 10% of hospitality businesses around the globe.
The accolade mirrors another recent award adjudicated by impartial consumers. In February independent course-review website Golfshake ranked La Cala in the top-three of golf destinations worldwide, based on more than 15,000 reviews from real golfers. In addition, La Cala has been nominated in in three categories at the prestigious World Golf Awards with winners to be decided by public vote, held on the World Golf Awards website.
Situated in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas with breath-taking views of the Andalusian countryside and distant Mediterranean, La Cala Resort is a golfing mecca only 30 minutes from Malaga Airport. Three championship courses, designed by world-renowned architect Cabell B. Robinson, provide an exhilarating challenge while a 4* 107-room hotel, Spain’s leading Hydrotherapy Spa, four restaurants and multiple bars complete the La Cala experience.
Director of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real said: “No feedback matters more to us than the views of real guests – that’s why we’re incredibly honoured be rated so highly by Tripadvisor’s community of reviewers.
“Recognition like this is a massive step towards cementing La Cala’s position as a bucket-list destination for goflers across Europe.”
Chief Commercial Officer at Tripadvisor, Kanika Soni, said: “Winners of the 2020 Travelers’ Choice Awards should be proud of this distinguished recognition. Although it’s been a challenging year for travel and hospitality, we want to celebrate our partners’ achievements. Award winners are beloved for their exceptional service and quality.”
The Traveler’s Choice Award comes eight months after La Cala was named Best 4* Golf Resort in Spain at the 2019 International Travel Awards and best 4* hotel in both Spain and Europe at the 2019 International Hotel Awards.
Irish owners FBD Holdings has invested heavily over the last two years, instigating a complete refurbishment of La Cala’s 107-bedroom hotel. In 2019, ambitious improvement work to the 54-hole golf resort – the largest in Spain – has seen the installation of Bermuda grass greens and refurbishment of every bunker on the Asia Course.
La Cala features three championship courses and Spain’s leading Hydrotherapy Spa. With four award-winning restaurants and multiple bars, La Cala sets the standard for sport and leisure holidays in the Costa del Sol. There are also further leisure opportunities with a FIFA-standard football pitch, running circuit, gym, tennis and squash courts.
Nestled between the arresting beauty of the Sierra de Mijas Natural Park and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, La Cala is a genuine haven of tranquillity. It’s the perfect base for exploring Andalusia and Spain’s cultural cities like Granada, Seville and Malaga.
