Brabazon Turns Thirty

7.50am 14th June 2007 - Travel

The Belfry has just celebrated the 30th birthday of its Brabazon course co-designed by Peter Alliss with David Thomas. The Brabazon is not the only Belfry course celebrating a special anniversary birthday this year as the PGA National course, one of only three PGA branded courses in the British Isles, turns ten years old as well.

Once a humble potato field the Brabazon is steeped in history and famous throughout the world especially for its 10th and 18th holes, where many dramatic Ryder Cup matches have been won and lost.

Peter Alliss said, “It’s difficult to imagine as I look across the course today, that over 30 years ago there were less than 40 trees on the whole acreage.

“The Brabazon course has become world-renowned over the years due to its involvement with the Professional Golfers’ Association and as host of four Ryder Cup events.

“This September the resort will host the Quinn Direct British Masters for a second time, and I anticipate a number of fine golfing events will grace its manicured fairways for years to come.”
