Mallorca’s award-winning Club de Golf Alcanada is set to take its five-star experience to another level after revealing plans to invest a further €250,000 in its golf facilities in 2016.

The stunning venue in the north of Mallorca remains as popular as ever with golfers across Europe, and aims to build on its success by continuing to upgrade amenities on and off the course over the coming months.

In addition to investing €150,000 on updating and adding to its fleet of greenkeeping machines, Alcanada will spend a further €50,000 on work to improve the irrigation and buggy paths around the renowned layout.

And members and guests are in for a further treat later in the year when the club unveils its eagerly-awaited new ‘Lighthouse Bar’ halfway house. Situated by the tenth tee, the new facility is scheduled to open before the autumn and will offer players the chance to make the most of the unrivalled panoramic views that Alcanada is famous for across the continent.

The latest work is part of an on-going investment programme at Alcanada, with a new starter house, two new bridges on the first and ninth holes and an independent irrigation cycle for the greens all having been installed on the course over the last two years.

Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “With a five-star golf course, outstanding customer service and an unbeatable location, Club de Golf Alcanada is at the top of golfers’ wish lists who want to play in Mallorca.

“We want to continue to deliver a premium golf experience to our members and visitors, and the work we’re undertaking over the next few months will ensure that we maintain the standards we have set in recent years.”

Alcanada’s 7,108-yard, Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed course has won a steady stream of awards since opening 12 years ago, including being named best golf course in Europe by visitors to 1golf.eu for five years in a row.

It was also voted runner-up in the ‘Favourite Course in Europe’ category of leading German magazine Golf Journal’s annual Golf Travel Awards for the second successive year and has been shortlisted at the World Golf Awards for the title of Spain’s Best Golf Course’ for the last two years.

Sitting in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia and adjacent to the Mediterranean, Alcanada is the only course on the island next to the sea. Opened in October 2003, the layout blends naturally into the typical Mallorcan terrain and takes its name from an island with a lighthouse, situated just offshore, which can be seen from most of the holes.

Magnificent mountain and sea views and a mixture of pine and olive groves – ideal for the many bird species recorded in a recent ornithological survey – provide the splendid setting for a round at Alcanada and the course is recognised by the golf industry as one of the finest venues in Spain and Europe and is a member of the prestigious World of Leading Golf collection.

In addition, the club boasts a centuries-old Mallorca clubhouse which offers guests the opportunity to sample regional specialties in its first-class dining facilities on a sun-baked terrace, while its comprehensive, newly rebranded Lighthouse Golf Academy, including a spacious short-game area and covered driving range, is also available.
