The Taylor Made-adidas golf order of merit

10.00am 4th May 2000 - Sponsorship & Events

In a move to enhance their support at all levels of the game, Taylor Made-adidas Golf have today signed a deal which will significantly increase the prize funds available for competing players. In return, the Taylor Made and adidas brands will become title sponsors, not only of the Order of Merit, but also of the six order of merit events.

European marketing manager for both Taylor Made and adidas, Robin Gibson, said of the deal, “This is an exciting venture for both the Taylor Made and adidas brands. Our aim is to make the best performance golf products in the world and it is important for us that the best players at all levels play our products. This sponsorship is designed to support the South Region PGA members and to give them the opportunity to attain their goals within the game of golf.”

In addition to the financial investment that Taylor Made and adidas are making in the South Region PGA, they will also support each event with full demo facilities for the pros, the assistants and their pro-am partners.

Those players who finish in the top 15 in the final Order of Merit will qualify for the opportunity to be fully fitted by the Taylor Made and adidas European Tour Team, in the same way as the likes of Retief Goosen, Paul Broadhurst, Justin Rose and many other top Taylor Made–adidas Golf European Tour Professionals. The Order of Merit winner will be offered a full equipment contract.

Peter Ward, Secretary of the South Region PGA, commented, “We are delighted that the Taylor Made and adidas brands have decided to support our Order of Merit tournament scene. We are certain that our members will benefit significantly from the support and it will enhance the competition and standard of play seen at Order of Merit events. We look forward to a long and happy relationship with the Taylor Made and adidas Golf companies.”
