Sounder to host ‘clubhouse with a difference’ at Scores Hotel during Open Championship

New golf apparel brand Sounder is taking over the famous Scores Hotel in St Andrews to host an ‘alternative clubhouse’ at the 150th Open Championship.

Despite being just across the road from the R&A’s headquarters, The Sounder Clubhouse at The Scores promises to offer a very different feel to its venerable neighbour at St Andrews.  

The pop-up venue – less than 100 yards from the Old Course’s first tee – will bring a festival feel to golf’s oldest and most historic tournament, with DJ sets, live music, art exhibitions, food and drink, and a missed-cut party on Friday night.

Sounder is a new golf clothing and accessories brand launched set up by Cathal McAteer, the founder of cult fashion brand Folk, and James Day, who set up the UK’s first indoor golf venue Urban Golf. Simon Mottram, the founder of pioneering cycling brand Rapha, is also an investor in the business. 

Day – a former professional golfer and club-maker – has spent his whole career fighting for a version of the game that’s more accessible, more inclusive and more fun. 

He said: “We believe the true spirit of golf is lost when we view it as an elite sport, rather than a game for everyone. Sounder was always about creating a golf brand for people like us. And the Sounder Clubhouse is a place for people like us – a place to watch the golf on big screens, to socialise, to eat and drink, to enjoy great music and to hear from some of the most interesting people in the game.”
