12.01am 6th October 2010 - Sponsorship & Events

Scotland’s leading amateur golfers have been given a major boost ahead of the Eisenhower Trophy defence after TaylorMade-adidas Golf agreed to extend its Official Clothing and Equipment sponsorship of the Scottish Golf Union for a further three years.

The partnership will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2011, with TaylorMade-adidas Golf coming on board as major supporters of the Scottish Golf Union’s elite squads back in 2001. The new agreement will see TaylorMade-adidas Golf provide team apparel, clothing, bags and equipment to the SGU’s men’s elite squad, boys development squad, Academy, senior team as well as clothing for staff and officials.

Recognised as two of the leading brands in world golf, TaylorMade and adidas Golf support some of the world’s top golfers including USPGA champion Martin Kaymer, US Ryder Cup star Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose, twice a winner on the US Tour this season.

TaylorMade adidas Golf also sponsor European Tour star Richie Ramsay, the most successful graduate from the Scotland Men’s Elite Squad, who joined the current leading lights of the amateur game to celebrate the new partnership:

“TaylorMade adidas Golf’s support of the Scottish Golf Union over the last nine years has been fantastic and to secure a further three years of sponsorship is a great boost for the players in the squad. They have supported me since my amateur days and have continued that after I turned professional three years ago.”

“They have some fantastic products and I’m sure the players will benefit greatly from working with the TaylorMade adidas Golf team, through the clothing and equipment they provide and I look forward to helping the younger players making the same transition I did.” added Ramsay, who finished fourth in last year’s Dunhill Links Championship.

Ross Duncan, Marketing & Sponsorship Manager for the SGU, said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with TaylorMade-adidas Golf for a further three years. They are a fantastic brand to be associated with and the length of our partnership demonstrates how successfully we have worked together.”

Ian Watts, European Sports Marketing Director for TaylorMade-adidas Golf added: “The Scottish Golf Union and their leading amateur golfers have been fantastic ambassadors for our brands over the last few years, with their success in the World Amateur Team Championship and guys like Richie Ramsay winning major international events.

“We look forward to working with the SGU and their teams over the next three years and continuing to support grass roots golf in Scotland, which is very important to us. The SGU have worked very hard to ensure the sponsorship is delivered successfully and we would endorse them to other companies looking to invest in the development of golf in Scotland.”

The Scotland team of James Byrne, Ross Kellett and Michael Stewart will head to Argentina later this month to defend the Eisenhower Trophy, wearing adidas climacool clothing and adidas Tour 360 4.0 shoes, with an exclusive TaylorMade Tour bag.
