Regal Golf to sponsor Short Course Championship

7.00am 4th July 2000 - Sponsorship & Events

Regal Golf has taken the ‘title’ sponsorship for the British Professional Short Course Championships to be held at the Nailcote Hall Hotel in Warwickshire on 15th and 16th August. Last year’s winner was the European Tour player Carl Mason.

Now in their third year the Nailcote Championships revive a tournament series which was inaugurated at the Palace Hotel, Torquay in 1933 which, in its heyday, attracted legendary players including Henry Cotton, Ted Ray, Harry Vardon and Alex Herd.

Today the tournament attracts professionals of all ages from 18 years old right up to the ‘Super Seniors’ category for players over 75 years of age. Several players who took part in the original series, including Max Faulkner, Charlie Ward and 91 year old Bert Gadd, join many of today’s stars in the Nailcote event.

Regal Golf’s range of products includes clubs, bags, trolleys and clothing and the company has also pioneered the development of new practice putting mats and practice nets. Jaguar has put up an XK8 sports car for a hole in one; other firms supporting the event include Omega, Laurent Perrier and Strata.

Nailcote owner, Rick Cressman, said, “When we re-created the Short Course Championships we knew that our event would attract all those looking to test their short game skills. In all modesty we claim that to beat par at Nailcote is as tough a challenge as you can get. Last year only 5 out of the 81 professionals came in below par for the 36 holes played.”
