ProQuip gears up for Ryder Cup

12.02am 20th September 2010 - Sponsorship & Events

PROQUIP, the world’s leading innovator of lightweight golf weatherwear and Preferred Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team 2010, has produced what it believes to be the ‘lightest and quietest’ Ryder Cup rain suit ever.

The suit, which has been developed with significant involvement from European Team Captain Colin Montgomerie, was inspired by ProQuip’s award-winning Ultralite technology, a highly technical waterproof outer fabric, and offering performance benefits similar to the new Ultralite Tour suit, one of an extensive new range of ProQuip products being launched to the public ahead of the Ryder Cup.

“While we cannot reveal precise details about the fabric technology, style and colours of the Ryder Cup rain suit, what we can say is that it is the lightest and quietest rain suit any Ryder Cup team has had the benefit of,” said Richard Head, Managing Director of ProQuip, who has been personally responsible for the design and fitting of more Ryder Cup team rain suits, European and American, than any other designer in golf.

“We presented a number of technical fabric options to Colin Montgomerie at an early stage, but he was clear from the outset – he wanted the lightest and quietest rain suit possible.”

Similar to the Ryder Cup rain suit, Ultralite Tour features a high-performance waterproof outer, so water runs quickly and efficiently off the surface. It’s most important performance benefits, however, are that it is ultra lightweight, leaving the player to swing freely, and quiet, virtually eliminating fabric noise, helping the player remain 100% focused on the shot.

The launch of Ultralite Tour heralds the most significant and exciting roll-out of new ProQuip products in a decade. Included is a top-of-the-range waterproof-stretchable Playing Top, water repellent Merino knitwear, an entry-level rain suit and an all new ladies waterproof suit.

Looking ahead to the Ryder Cup, Richard Head added: “I have worked closely with numerous Ryder Cup captains, American and European, since the 1980s, but none have been as clear and decisive in their specific requirements as Colin Montgomerie.

“Taking into account the rain at The K Club in 2006, Colin has made it abundantly clear just how important he believes the European Team’s weatherwear to be for Wales. We have done some incredibly detailed, technical work on this suit and Colin has been involved every step of the way. The ‘light and quiet’ brief Monty gave me at the start of this process has been carried through the design and development phases to the point where we are now making a tailored, high-performance suit for each player.

“These are certainly the lightest and quietest rain suits ProQuip has ever made – and, in my opinion, the best weatherwear any Ryder Cup team has ever had the benefit of.”
