Peter Baker, the former Ryder Cup star and four-time DP World Tour winner, won his fourth Legends Tour event of the year on Sunday to capture the 2023 Tour’s Order of Merit title and lift the prestigious John Jacobs Trophy.

Baker, who is a member of Galvin Green’s Team 30, and was wearing the Swedish apparel brand’s white MAX Tour shirt in the humid conditions in Mauritius last weekend, birdied four of the last six holes to win the MCB Tour Championship at the Constance Belle Mare Plage course with three consecutive rounds of 67.

A sublime 5-wood second shot set up a birdie on the last to clinch the Tour double, as the Staffordshire professional became the no.1 player on the Legends Tour this year.

As well as taking the MCB Road to Mauritius title, Baker had previously won the JCB Championship at the JCB Golf & Country Club; the Irish Legends event at Seapoint Golf Links, Co. Louth; and the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at the Trump International course in Aberdeen.

Peter played for Europe in the 1993 Ryder Cup at The Belfry, scoring two fourball victories paired with Ian Woosnam and a singles triumph over Corey Pavin.

Speaking after finishing on top of the Legends Tour money list for the first time, Baker said: “It’s been an incredible golfing year for me and I thought I would have to win this event to take the trophy. I played the back nine really well and the last six holes were tremendous. I can’t quite believe it, but I guess I managed to hit some great shot at the time this year.”

The Galvin Green Team 30 designation was awarded in 2020 to mark the 30-year anniversary of the apparel company, when a select group of PGA professionals who had been associated with the brand from its early days were given license to wear the special shirts.
