Madagascar to host first pro event on Staysure Tour’s ‘Indian Ocean Swing’

8.14am 1st November 2019 - Sponsorship & Events

The Staysure Tour has expanded its ‘Indian Ocean Swing’ to three events, with the first stage of the end-of-season MCB Tour Championship taking place in Madagascar from November 29 – December 1.

Set to take place at International Golf Club Du Rova, the MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar will be the country’s first European Tour-sanctioned event, and will be the 46th country visited by the Staysure Tour since it was created in 1992.

Roger Chapman won the 2018 MCB Tour Championship in the Seychelles

Mauritius Commercial Bank, title sponsors of the MCB Tour Championship since 2011, oversaw the expansion of the season-ending event last year, with the addition of the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles. Two-time Senior Major Champion Roger Chapman won the Seychelles’ first professional golf tournament last year, defeating 2002 Ryder Cup hero Phillip Price in a play-off.

MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar joins the event in Seychelles and the season-ending MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius as part of a line-up of events taking place at the end of the year. Beginning in Madagascar from Friday November 29 to Sunday December 1, then returning to Constance Lemuria in Seychelles from December 5-7, with the season finale taking place at Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius from December 13-15.

A field of 48 players will tee it up on the fourth-largest island on earth, all vying to become the winner of the first professional golf tournament to be held in Madagascar.

“When I first met the members of the Madagascan government in early 2019, I was welcomed with open arms because they want to change the country’s image and have a real development project for the coming years with the creation of five or six golf courses and hotels to make Madagascar a golf destination in the wake of Mauritius,” said Marc Farry, the tournament promotor, after signing the three-year commitment with Joël Randriamandranto, Minister of Transport, Tourism and Meteorology.

“It gives me great pleasure to see the Staysure Tour head to Madagascar as the MCB Tour Championship expands to a three-event final series,” said Mark Aspland, Head of the Staysure Tour. “We are always looking to increase playing opportunities for our members, so to be able to add this event to our International Schedule is a great success.

“This would not have been possible without the help of the Marc Farry Organisation, the Madagascan Golf Federation, Madagascar Tourism and MCB, who continue to show their desire and commitment to host the Staysure Tour’s season finale. Over the last few years, the Staysure Tour has visited several stunning golf courses, so it is very exciting to add another beautiful venue to the list.”
