Lottery Grant for Junior Golf in North Devon

9.00am 10th March 2000 - Sponsorship & Events

A project to attract more young people to play golf in North Devon has been awarded a grant of £3,000 from the Millennium Awards for All community grants scheme.

Over the next three years pupils in 24 primary and secondary schools in the area will receive free coaching from a qualified PGA professional. Pupils will also have the opportunity to attend coaching at local golf clubs and play in friendly competitions especially organised for beginners.

The project has been organised by the North Devon Junior Golf Partnership which consists of representatives from Chumleigh Community College, Chumleigh Golf Club, North Devon District Council, the Golf Foundation and the PGA.

The Golf Foundation is the national body dedicated to encouraging young people to play golf and it now has in place a network of Development Officers who are able to give advice on Awards for All applications.
