Lilly and Pepper win SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge

12.07pm 23rd October 2023 - Sponsorship & Events

Wellingborough Golf Club duo Simon Lilly and club captain Glyn Pepper were crowned SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge champions for 2023 after winning the event with an impressive score of 86 points.

Starting the final day in pole position, the Northamptonshire-based pair continued to build on their first round success at Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort (PGA National Italy), and even a rain delay couldn’t deter Lilly and Pepper from their ultimate goal.

“Glyn played brilliantly – he had 4 net 3 on the par 4 16th and 3 net 2 on the par 3 17th, two of the toughest holes out there, which was huge,” said PGA Professional Lilly. We had a really good front nine, which got us off to a nice start, we just wanted to keep itsteady and avoid making silly mistakes.”

Pepper added: “I’m ecstatic that we won – I knew we were doing okay, but I had no idea where we were on the leaderboard until Simon hit his second shot into the last, and that’s when he told me. I had no idea until then – it’s brilliant!”
He added: “The whole event has been superb, The course was absolutely fantastic, the hotel was great, and the sponsors have been so generous. The whole set-up is fantastic, and I would definitely recommend people come back here.”

Lilly echoed his partner’s comments about the tournament, adding: “It’s been a really good week. It’s been nice to get the competitive juices flowing again, playing for some good money and we’ve had a great sponsor. The PGA have done a great job, it’s a great course – it’s the sort of course you can’t let up on, so we were just trying to keep focused on every hole and we did the job!”

Nicholas Cains and club captain Sam Orlopp (Swaffham GC) finished in second place with 84 points, whilst Alan Welsh and club captain John Hicks (Cathkin Braes GC) came in third with 80 points.
