DP World Tour Q School tees off at INFINITUM

10.45am 10th November 2023 - Sponsorship & Events

INFINITUM will play host this week to numerous renowned DP World Tour and PGA TOUR stars, as well as many of the world’s most promising young golfers, as they all attempt to secure their path to the big time at the DP World Tour Qualifying School Final Stage.

The storied six-round marathon of golf takes place from November 10-15, when the stunning Costa Dorada venue presents its two centrepiece courses, the Hills and the Lakes, for the 156 players all arriving with dreams of earning one of 25 coveted DP World Tour cards for next season.

Among those lining up to stake their claim are France’s Alexander Lévy, who lost his card in dramatic fashion in last month’s Qatar Masters after lipping out twice on his final two hole – one of those for a near-ace on the par-three 17th hole – to miss the cut by one shot. He will face stiff competition from the likes of four-time DP World Tour winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat, seven-time winner Álvaro Quirós and 2019 Korn Ferry Tour Championship champion Tom Lewis – also a two-time winner of the Portugal Masters.

Meanwhile, former Ryder Cup player David Howell – who recently entered the history books as the player with the most DP World Tour appearances, beating Miguel Angél Jiménez’s record – must navigate a gruelling six days if he is to keep his card and further extend his impressive record. At the other end of the spectrum is Italy’s Renato Paratore, who first got his card at the 2014 Q-School as the youngest player in the field, aged just 17.

To emerge with their DP World Tour cards, hopefuls will need to conquer two very different golfing tests at INFINITUM – the Greg Norman-designed Lakes course and Alfonso Viador’s Hills course, playing two rounds on each.

Those who make the fourth-round cut will advance to play two more rounds on the Lakes course with their DP World Tour futures on the line.

The 13th hole on Infinitum’s Hills course

This marks the fifth time that INFINITUM has played host to the 108-hole marathon of golf, first doing so from 2017-2019 and resuming hosting duties in 2022 after a pandemic-enforced delay. The 45-hole complex is renowned for the beauty and variety of its two championship courses, both of which opened in 2008.

Few layouts in Europe boast the drama of the Lakes, which incorporates water into no fewer than 14 holes amidst stunning natural wetlands. Demanding careful and strategic play, the Lakes became a full DP World Tour course when it hosted the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain last season.

Meanwhile, the Hills course requires accuracy off the tee and a wide repertoire of shots to put together a low score. Combined, the two 18-hole layouts are built to test every aspect of a golfer’s game, making it the ideal ground to determine who progresses to the DP World Tour.

Between rounds, players will fine-tune their games on INFINITUM’s world-class practice facilities, which include two driving ranges, putting and chipping greens and the new Callaway Performance Centre. Alternatively, stars can keep sharp on the shorter Ruins course, also designed by Norman and regarded as one of the best nine-hole layouts in Europe.

Joaquín Mora Bertrán, director of golf at INFINITUM, said: “There’s nothing else in golf quite like Qualifying School Final Stage, and we are just as excited to host this year as we were the first time, in 2017.

“Q-School needs to push golfers to their limits, forcing them to excel with every club in their bag and strike the balance between risk and reward. Only the most skilled and well-rounded golfers will emerge with their cards for next year, but there’s plenty of action to enjoy first.

“The courses are in great condition, and everything is ready to go, so we’re looking forward to letting the drama unfold and our team is focused on making this Qualifying School Final Stage the best in the tournament’s history.”

Away from the fairways, INFINITUM is packed with amenities for players and guests to enjoy, including a trio of incredible restaurants and an award-winning beach club. An ambitious real estate project is also well underway beside the golf courses, with more than 90 per cent of the first 150 homes sold and a second phase of 119 more properties in development.
