Greenside magazine sponsors Golf Foundation awards

12.41am 23rd February 2009 - Sponsorship & Events

Greenside magazine has joined The European Tour in supporting the Golf Foundation’s annual awards.

To be held again this year at Wentworth, during the BMW PGA Championship on 20th May, the prestigious event will be titled ‘The Golf Foundation Annual Awards Ceremony sponsored by Greenside magazine and supported by The European Tour‘.

The European Tour has been a supporter of the awards for many years, providing the high-quality venue and catering, and helping with publicity for the event. For 2009, Greenside magazine is to be main sponsor for a ceremony which is one of the highlights of the year for those who support grass roots junior golf development.

As the leading golf charity, which is committed to the social and sporting development of young people through golf, the Foundation is in a unique position to recognise the individuals and groups who deserve special acclaim for helping youngsters to find their way in the game.

PGA professionals, volunteers of all ages, sports development workers and teachers are among a diverse cross-section of people who can be nominated for awards.

Greenside is a consumer magazine with articles developed by the experts, PGA golf professionals, to help golfers get the most out of their golf game. It is produced on behalf of the buying group for professionals, Foremost Golf, by Haymarket Network. Foremost Golf is the UK’s largest buying group and supports over 1,000 on-course PGA professionals. Haymarket Network is one of the leading sports-focused publishing agencies in the UK and part of the Haymarket Group, with a client list alongside Foremost Golf that includes Sky Sports, The FA, the NFL and Manchester United.

Mike Round, chief executive of the Golf Foundation, said, “I‘m delighted that Greenside has joined The European Tour in supporting the awards, which are close to the hearts of everyone connected with the Golf Foundation. Greenside magazine has a strong track record in supporting PGA pros and this commitment to our awards is highly appreciated.”

Paul Hedges, CEO of Foremost Golf said, “Foremost’s prime motivation is to be ‘Good For Golf‘ and there cannot be a better way to deliver on that promise than to help the development of our future golfers. Through the Greenside magazine, we are delighted to support the Golf Foundation in their work for the betterment of Junior Golf.”

Ben Holland, account director (Sport) at Haymarket Network, said, “We‘re very pleased to be supporting the Golf Foundation in this way. Their work is vital in ensuring the future of the game and the professionals involved with the awards will be a great example to all PGA professionals in these changing times.”

The Golf Foundation has sent nomination forms to a variety of golf, education and community organisations in recent months. The forms can be downloaded from the website, www.golf-foundation.org. The closing date for nominations is 28th February.

There are eight Golf Foundation awards to be won in all. Four individual awards include the volunteer and PGA professional of the year, a special award for making progress in golf despite adversity and The Sir Henry Cotton Award which goes to a person who has done great work for juniors over a sustained period. Four further awards cover successful regional golf projects of varying sizes and objectives.
