A new era beckons for the PGA’s flagship event – the Club Professional Championship – after long-standing sponsor Glenmuir agreed a two year extension which will also see the tournament re-named.
The event will now be branded the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship and this new agreement takes the Lanark-based firm’s association with the Championship to a record 17 years.
Within the agreement, the Scottish company will also provide clothing for the 2009 PGA Cup team and the PGA’s of Europe International Team Championship. In addition, Glenmuir will continue to be the exclusive provider of crested garments to the PGA’s 7,500 members across the world.
The relaunch of this championship will also see the continued tradition that the Glenmuir Championship is played at high quality venues throughout the UK and Ireland.
This is reflected in this year’s final being played at Royal Porthcawl but in the two years ahead it is planned that all the qualifying rounds will also be staged at venues of such quality.
Glenmuir’s ongoing commitment to the PGA’s most highly regarded tournament reinforces its position as one of the leading brand names in golf leisurewear in Europe.
The Glenmuir mark can be seen on golfers everywhere – from grass roots players to the world’s elite. Glenmuir have been suppliers to the Ryder Cup team over the last two decades and this year for the first time, the Walker Cup team will also be wearing Glenmuir apparel.
Speaking ahead of the championship, Glenmuir’s managing director Colin Mee said, “I am delighted to be able to continue our association with this Championship and extend Glenmuir’s involvement with the PGA’s flagship event for club professionals to 17 consecutive years.
“Our strong relationship with the PGA membership both in Britain and Europe provides the core of our business activity and this championship gives us the opportunity to communicate directly with our customers.
“The staging of the qualifying events and the final continue to grow in stature and we are proud to be associated with such a prestigious tournament.”
Sandy Jones, PGA chief executive added, “The PGA are absolutely delighted that Glenmuir have extended their relationship with us until 2009.
“The Glenmuir company is one of golf’s greatest supporters and we are all privileged to have them as a business partner. They are a great friend to the Association and its members and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership to the benefit of everyone in golf.”
