First British Junior World Champion gets Motocaddy boost

Motocaddy, which became headline sponsor of the British Junior Golf Tour earlier this year, showed its appreciation of the UK’s first young male golfer to win at the IMG Academy Junior World Championships by presenting six-year-old Louie Goh with a new pushcart and bag to help him advance his game further.

Louie, who plays at Woodcote Park Golf Club in Surrey, won the youngest category event (6 & Under) held in San Diego last month and joins a stellar group of IMG Academy winners over the past 55 years that includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson Ernie Els, Jason Day and Tony Finau.

Having become the first British boy to win any age division since the Junior World Championships began in 1968, Louie said: “It was an amazing experience to compete in California. I had a lot of fun and a big thank you to the British Junior Golf Tour for the opportunity. I couldn’t believe how much hotter it was than back home and the greens were like lightning. But I like a challenge and made new golf buddies too. I can’t wait to use my new Motocaddy trolley and bag!”

In celebration of his victory at the largest international event for juniors in the world – 1,250 participants representing 56 countries – Louis was presented with a CUBE pushcart and matching Dry-Series bag by Motocaddy Marketing Director Oliver Churcher at the recent BJGT event at Belton Woods in Lincolnshire.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for a six-year-old to become a World Champion and everyone at Motocaddy congratulates Louie on his historic win. Having seen him play, we were blown away with how good his golf game is at such a young age, and we hope he continues to play great golf with a smile on his face,” said Churcher.

Neil Randall, Tour Director of the BJGT commented: “The considerable effort that has gone into growing and improving the British Junior Golf Tour in the past few years means that we now have players able not only to compete with the world’s best juniors but finish on top.

“We‘re incredibly proud of Louie and all the other BJGT juniors who represented us so well at both the IMG Academy Junior World Championships and the FCG Callaway World Junior Golf Championship in Palm Desert this summer. Our thanks go to Motocaddy for surprising Louie on his return to the UK. He was clearly delighted with his new gear and determined to start using them as quickly as possible,” he added.

So far this year, the BJGT has staged 23 individual events, with 436 boy and girl junior golfers aged 6-18 taking part across its 9-hole, 18-hole and Order of Merit categories. Nine more events remain along with the Tour Championship at Walton Heath in October for those who qualify via the season-long Order of Merit. A popular Parent/Junior Series to encourage family golf has seen 60 teams compete over four events, with two more events to go.

Motocaddy headline sponsorship of the DP World Tour’s Approved Golf Development Programme provides the Tour with financial support and prizes, with events held at a wide range of venues, including Woodhall Spa, Frilford Heath, Harleyford, Sunningdale Heath and The Springs.
