Farmfoods European Legends event launches at Marylebone Hotel

4.02pm 28th February 2019 - Sponsorship & Events

Plans for the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship, a new event on the Staysure Tour for 2019, were unveiled at a special event held at the  Marylebone Hotel in London last night (February 26).

Guests were treated to a night of entertainment, as well as drinks and canapés, laid on by tournament organiser Champions (UK) plc, as they learned about was in store for the over-50s tour event, which is set to take place at Trevose Golf & Country Club in Cornwall between June 20-23.

Staysure Tour player Peter Baker took part in a Q&A session with guests during the launch event for the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship

Former Team GB athlete Derek Redmond took to the stage as host, along with Champions (UK) Director of Sport, Tim Munton, to address audience members and answer any questions on this year’s event.

The highlight of the evening was the appearance of European Tour legend and Ryder Cup winner Peter Baker, who took part in a Q&A session with guests. Competing in the event himself in June, Baker was able to talk about some of the best moments of his career, as well as discuss his excitement for the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship.

The event was a great way to introduce the tournament and give guests an insight into the playing and sponsorship opportunities that are also on offer.

Trevose has hosted a number of prestigious national amateur events over the years, including the Brabazon and the McGregor trophies, but this will mark the first time the south-west venue has staged an event on the over-50s professional circuit.

The tournament, which will have a prize fund of £200,000, will get underway with a pro-am on June 20, where teams of one professional and three amateurs will compete over the club’s Championship course. Day two will see the Alliance format of the week commence, where each Staysure Tour pro will link up with one amateur over the course of two days. The final day’s play will see the amateurs step aside, as the pros go head-to-head in a bid to win the championship title and a first prize of €50,000.

Champions UK also organises the Farmfoods European Senior Masters and the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.
