Direct GolfUK, Europe’s leading multi-channel golf retailer, is delighted to announce their support to Seve Day, a European-wide golf tournament set up by YourGolfTravel.com, in partnership with the Seve Ballesteros Foundation and Cancer Research UK, to help raise £1 million to fight brain cancer.
The unique charity golf event, which offers golfers the chance to ‘play like Seve’ and be in with a chance of winning a trip for two to the US Masters in Augusta, was launched last week as celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment united to help YourGolfTravel announce their exciting plans for the first ever Seve Day, a year on from the day the charismatic golfer lost battle with brain cancer.
John Andrew, Chairman for Direct GolfUK, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Seve Day – a fantastic initiative set up by our friends at Your Golf Travel in aid of such a worthy cause.”
Seve Day hopes to attract thousands of participants and raise significant funds for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation which, in partnership with Cancer Research UK, funds vital research into brain cancer.
“We’ll not only be supplying Direct Golf UK gift cards to all participants but will be actively promoting and encouraging the 800,000 golfers on our database, our staff and customers to get involved and help raise as much money as possible” added Andrew.
In order to enter, players need to register their details on the seveday.com website and pay a registration fee of £25/€30 – with 100% of all proceeds going directly to the Seve Ballesteros Foundation – and will receive over £250 worth of vouchers and exclusive benefits.
The tournament will commence on 1st July 2012 and golfers will have the whole of July to play their qualifying round of 18 holes on any European course and submit their stableford scores on the Seve Day website – www.seveday.com. Ross Marshall, co-founder of YourGolfTravel.com, said: “Our aim is to create a unique event to remember the most inspirational figure in European golf and help raise £1 million pounds for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation. It’s a tall order, but we’re delighted that John and Direct GolfUKare throwing their weight behind what we are doing.”
It’s not the first time Direct Golf UK and Your Golf Travel, two of the largest European-based golf businesses, have joined forces to support the Seve Foundation; In April, John Andrew and Your Golf Travel’s Ross Marshall and Andrew Harding all ran the 2012 London Marathon in aid of Seve and Cancer Research UK.
“Like a lot of people, Seve was a hero of mine growing up and what became apparent from running the marathon with Ross and Andrew, is that we are all passionate about Seve and his Foundation. I’ll be playing in Seve Day and urging all my staff and friends to do the same. Together, hopefully, we’ll raise a £1 million” concluded Andrew.
