British Speedgolf Championships return to Sunningdale Heath

10.30am 4th September 2024 - Sponsorship & Events

The British Speedgolf Championships return to Sunningdale Heath Golf Club on 15 September 2024 for its 10th edition with over 50 players vying for optimum pace and performance in one of the most unique championships in UK golf.

For the first time, The R&A is supporting the championship which champions a faster, more athletic golf format where the Speedgolf score is a combination of golf strokes and time. The championship also presents one of the most inclusive events in golf; with the field including PGA Pros, amateur players, women, and junior teens.

British Speedgolf has been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries in this global sport and this year the championship includes another first introducing a category for Adaptive golfers. Scott Richardson made history in the sport in 2021 when he became the first amputee golfer in the world to compete in a National Speedgolf event, and this year he will be joined by two other adaptive players.

In addition, those challenging this year for the overall British Speedgolf Championship title will play 36 holes of Speedgolf on the same day, Round 1 in the morning, and Round 2 early afternoon; the winner proving consistency over 36 holes for success!

PGA Pro Luke Willett will defend his 2023 overall title, having already won National Speedgolf championships in the US, Finland, and most recently Ireland. He will be challenged by three-time winner of the tournament and former World Speedgolf Champion, Ireland’s Rob Hogan along with competitors from France, Finland, Belgium, Sweden, and the US.

Daniel Messom, General Manager at Sunningdale Heath, explains, “Speedgolf is a breath of fresh air. It’s fast, inclusive and requires creativity. It embodies everything that Sunningdale Heath is trying to achieve in the world of golf.”

Phil Anderton, Chief Development Officer at The R&A, added, “The R&A is pleased to support this year’s British Speedgolf Championship. Speedgolf is a growing, new format of the sport which continues to attract players of all ages and abilities. There are wonderful physical and mental health benefits to playing Speedgolf and we hope the 10th edition of the championship is a great success.”
