Bowood on course to host English PGA Championship

8.45am 30th June 2023 - Sponsorship & Events

The English PGA Championship returns to Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort next month for what will be the Wiltshire venue’s fourth hosting of the prestigious tournament.

The £30,000 tournament attracts a field of 144, including the top 15 players in each of the PGA’s seven regions, the 2022 PGA Cup team, the five most PGA Professional Championship winners and regional qualifiers. Last year’s winner, James Ruth from Tavistock Golf Club in Devon, took the title with a score of nine under, and the PGA Cup player will be back to try and retain the title from July 18-20.

As well as hosting the event, the team at Bowood will be supporting its own PGA Professional, Harry Brewis, who is competing in the tournament. Harry has recently completed his PGA Training and hopes to make his colleagues proud during the three-day competition.

Spectators are welcome to support those participating with the first group teeing off Tuesday morning. Printed course maps will be available with live scoreboards located across the course — whilst The Clubhouse Bar will be open for food and drinks throughout the day.

Established in 1992 and set amongst 1,500 acres of glorious parkland, the Dave Thomas-designed 7,309 yard, par 72 championship course is renowned as one of the finest in Wiltshire, as well as being the official PGA Golf Course for the South West.

Jeff Condliffe, General Manager at Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, said: “We are honoured to host this prestigious event for the fourth time, and welcome some of the best golfers in the UK to play on our greens. We look forward to delivering another unforgettable tournament for all involved and I’m proud of all the effort that goes into the preparation and the smooth running of the tournament from everyone at Bowood.”

Devon’s James Ruth will be defending the title he won at Bowood last year
