The trustees of the British Golf Industry Association’s ‘Grow Golf’ initiative presented a cheque for £40,000 to The Golf Foundation on the evening of Monday (April 12th), during the BGIA’s Annual Gala Dinner held at Woburn Golf Club.
This cheque was presented by David Wells (BGIA Chairman ‘06-‘10) on behalf of the Trustees, as the first of a three year commitment by the Fund to award a significant grant of £120,000 to the Golf Foundation. This grant is to be specifically utilised for the Foundation’s ‘Golf Roots’ programme which, due to its success and visibility has recently combined all ongoing Foundation junior programmes (Tri Golf, Golf Extreme and Passport to Golf) to be delivered under the Golf Roots brand.
Charles Harrison, Chairman of the Golf Foundation said: “We are extremely grateful to the partners and trustees of Grow Golf for their significant contribution here at Woburn this evening. It will make an enormous difference to our ability to both grow and improve the ‘Golf Roots’ programme. We are all thrilled that the industry has put its trust in us to utilise their precious funding – we will not let them down.”
Mr. Wells went on to praise the generous annual donations contributed by the four founding partners at the Dinner, urging BGIA member attendees to add their support to the scheme to “give back” to the sport and help the initiative become a major contributor to the future growth of the game.
The ‘Grow Golf’ Initiative was launched in April 2007 as a new scheme to stimulate golf participation across all age groups, geographic regions and social backgrounds in the UK. The current Grow Golf partners are Acushnet Europe, Callaway Golf, PING Europe and TaylorMade-adidas Golf, who all pay an annual levy based on their UK turnover into the Grow Golf fund. The trustees of Grow Golf, who include industry stalwarts Warren Sunderland and Bob Smith, are actively seeking additional partners to expand this ambitious scheme.
The Trustees are also actively seeking other applicants to the fund, and would be delighted to consider applications for funding from those who require support for innovative proposals which will stimulate the growth of the game at national, regional or local level.
