BGIA ‘Grow Golf’ Fund awards 60 60 Golf £25,000 grant

The Trustees of the British Golf Industry Association’s (BGIA) innovative ‘Grow Golf’ initiative are delighted to announce their decision to award a grant of £25,000 to 60 60 Golf, to support their new, interactive golf range concept, designed to increase golf participation across the UK.

60 60 Golf, is the new fast, fun, interactive, cheap, everyday, all-weather way to play golf in just 1 hour at Golf Ranges. 60 60 Golf makes golf more accessible and convenient. It uses a completely new way of playing – through a digital application downloadable to a phone or tablet- to attract more people into the game, and to give more practice to those who are already passionate about it.

Craig Higgs, Director of 60 60 Golf, said: “We are delighted that our initiative has been so well received by the industry, it makes the last 3 years worthwhile. Our aim is to grow participation in golf which will in turn benefit the game we love and industry as whole”

Speaking about the grant, Grow Golf Chairman Bob Smith added “The Trustees are impressed with 60 60 Golf’s targets and commitment to capturing that all-important wide target audience of potential golfers by delivering a new modern, fun and faster way of playing golf.  The Fund is looking forward to seeing the participation figures the new game will bring in.”

The Grow Golf grant, provided for a one year period (May 2012 – May 2013) will be specifically utilised to support 25 ranges who have opted in to the 60 60 Golf programme who would benefit from support of £1,000 each.

60 60 Golf, installs a ‘standard Pitch’ at driving ranges (who pay an annual rental) and incorporates ‘Live Touch-Screen Scoring’ technology, a unique electronic scoring system on PDAs/tablets and smart-phones. Users (who pay a very small subscription) join the Internet Golf Club where players keep their performance data, compare rounds, play in local/national competitions, join a new golfing/social community etc.

The aim of 60 60 Golf is not to replace golf but to help everyone play better golf more often

Trustees are also actively seeking other applicants

The current BGIA Grow Golf contributing partners are Acushnet Europe, Callaway Golf, PING Europe, Motocaddy, and TaylorMade-adidas Golf who all pay an annual levy based on theirUKturnover into the Grow Golf fund.

The Trustees of Grow Golf, who include Chairman Bob Smith, are seeking additional partners to expand this ambitious scheme aimed at stimulating golf participation across all age groups, geographic regions and social backgrounds within theUK.

The Trustees are also actively seeking other applicants to the fund, and would be delighted to consider applications for funding from those who require support for innovative proposals which will stimulate the growth of the game at national level.

Grow Golf Fund

Since its launch in April 2007, the BGIA ‘Grow Golf’ Fund has supported the junior golf development of the Golf Foundations ‘Golf Roots’ programme with a £120,000 grant from 2010-12.   The Fund is actively seeking to attract many more BGIA members to contribute to the fund and help it to become a major contributor to the growth of the game in theUK.

Focused on market needs (for many, golf is too expensive, too time-consuming etc.), it addresses an 8 million market audience – c. 1 million UK club members but 7 million more casual golfers and potential players.
