The 39th Curtis Cup match takes place from the 10-12 June 2016 and Dun Laoghaire G.C., situated near the picturesque village of Enniskerry in Dublin, Ireland, will host the match between the top women amateur players from GB & I and the USA.

Continuing the tradition of commissioning an artist to produce original artwork to publicise and commemorate the event, the Ladies’ Golf Union selected Irish artist Lucy Tormey as the Curtis Cup Event Artist. The artwork will provide the theme for the 2016 Curtis Cup and posters and information will be rolled out to clubs in the UK and Ireland in the coming months.

Lucy recently presented her original artwork to the members of Dun Laoghaire G.C. for display in the clubhouse in the lead up to the match.

Lucy, who was similarly associated with The 2011 Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle and the Curtis Cup, which was played at Nairn G.C. in 2012, is a keen golfer herself and is a long time member of Mullingar Golf Club in Co. Westmeath.

“It’s extra special to be associated with next year’s event. My grandparents were members of the old Dun Laoghaire G.C. before it moved to its new location near Enniskerry and I am delighted to be involved.

The picture I’ve made is intended to capture some of the excitement of the match. I’ve watched a lot of golf over the years and there is nothing to compare to the atmosphere of a Curtis Cup match.  It has a loyal following and Curtis Cup supporters are a vocal and buoyant bunch.  I hope that my colourful and contemporary style echoes those emotions. I composed the picture so that the viewer would feel part of the action, following a closely fought game as it goes down to the wire.  Dublin city is in the background and there is a reference to Dun Laoghaire pier jutting out into bay, linking the Golf Club back to the famous landmark though, now, the club is situated in the hills outside the town.”

Around 20,000 spectators are expected to attend the Curtis Cup in Dun Laoghaire and Lucy is looking forward to meeting and chatting with many of those who share her interest in art and golf.
