A recent survey has revealed significant differences between UK and US golfers when it comes to spending plans on golf equipment this year.
According to reports into consumer confidence recently published by UK golf industry collective and data insights company Gather, only 20% of UK golfers say they plan to buy new golf clubs in the next 12 months – less than half the 47% reported among US golfers.
Over half of UK respondents (57%) said they had no intention of purchasing any new equipment this year, while 23% were undecided.
The data showed little difference across genders, with 20% of male and 15% of female golfers indicating interest in investing in new gear this season.
Employment status only had a modest effect on plans for future equipment purchases, with 22% of full-time workers expecting to buy new clubs in 2025 compared to 16% of retirees. Interestingly, income levels did not significantly influence purchasing intent.
According to Gather, the findings suggest a potentially slow year ahead for UK golf equipment retailers, although factors such as price stability may provide an opportunity to stimulate demand.
A recent poll carried out by online golf retailer Golfsupport.com which asked 1,178 golfers in the UK how often they replace their golf clubs found that 43% change their clubs every 3-5 years, with 9% changing them every 1-2 years.
