Popular St Helens golf course put up for sale

Popular Merseyside golf course ripe for development put on the market.

Leading commercial property agent HMH Golf & Leisure has brought Sherdley Park Golf Course, a profitable and extensively upgraded golf venue in Merseyside, to market for a guide price of £2.9 million.

Offering significant future development potential for investors and operators within the golf and leisure sector, the 161-acre property includes an established 18-hole parkland golf course, modern clubhouse facilities and an 11-acre former driving range site with separate road access that offers scope for redevelopment, subject to planning permission.

The St Helens-based venue, which is located approximately four miles from Junction 7 of the M62, has benefited from approximately £2 million of capital investment since 2019, with upgrades including a fully refurbished clubhouse and wider improvements across the site.

The golf course, founded in 1973, measures 5,884 yards and sits adjacent to the popular Sherdley Country Park. Additional facilities include a substantial greenkeeping complex with outbuildings and an attractive walled garden suitable for alternative leisure or hospitality uses.

The disused driving range site is expected to attract particular interest from buyers seeking to diversify golf and leisure operations, with potential opportunities for adventure golf, padel courts or other complementary facilities.

Trading performance has remained strong, with stabilised annual turnover reported at £1.5 million and EBITDA of £360,000 to April 2026, delivering a 25% operating margin. The property is held on a 142-year lease from St Helens Council with an annual rent of £30,000.

Tom Marriott, Director at HMH Golf & Leisure, said: “This is a great opportunity to acquire a very attractive fully refurbished and upgraded golf course and clubhouse. The club is centrally located adjoining the popular Sherdley Country Park. The business trades consistently well and is highly profitable.”
