Second phase of Doonbeg Links Cottages now on sale

Construction is well advanced on a second phase of the Links Cottages development at the internationally acclaimed Doonbeg Golf Club in West Clare, Ireland. The 11 four-bed roomed luxury cottages which are situated close to the 17th green go on sale today, 13th July. Last year the first phase of 17 cottages was a complete sell out. Doonbeg is already reporting a high level of interest in this latest phase of the development.

The current phase of Links Cottages development is in fact phase four of the €150 million Doonbeg Golf Club project being undertaken by South Carolina company, Kiawah Development Partners (KDP).

The project, which began in 1999, has already seen the completion in 2002 of a world acclaimed championship links golf course designed by Greg Norman; the opening last year of the five-star Lodge, clubhouse, dining and bar facilities along with the Garden, Norman and Courtyard Suites.

The 47 luxury suites in the main complex were all sold in advance of the official opening in May 2006 with the first 17 Links Cottages being sold by the end of December 2006. All of the suites and Links Cottages are privately owned and are leased back to Doonbeg Golf Club to form a bank of accommodation available to visitors.

The Links Cottages are being sold on a similar basis with purchasers having the opportunity to have them included in the golf club’s leasing scheme. Irish purchasers deciding to take this option can under the Holiday Cottage Scheme offset approximately 75% of the purchase price against all other Irish rental income over a 10 year period. A full refund of VAT is available to purchasers.

The Links Cottages are all large, luxurious four bedroom “cottages” almost 3,000 sq.ft. in size. Prices of the cottages range from €1,610,000 to €1,660,000 exclusive of VAT. Also cottages carry with them a family membership in the Doonbeg Golf Club.
Speaking about the Links Cottages Mr Ed Tovey, vice president in charge of property sales for the Club, said, “We have had a constant stream of enquiries particularly now that the first phase is in use. People can see just how well all of our properties are finished and exactly what they are getting for their investment.”

The Links Cottages are finished to five star standard consistent with all the accommodation at Doonbeg Golf Club. Designed by US architect, John Denton Haley, the Cottage interiors have been furnished by Jacquelynne P. Lanham of Atlanta Georgia and CLR of Dublin who collaborated on the interiors in the Lodge and the Suites. CCH Architects of Dublin and Limerick have acted as Project Architects.

Doonbeg Golf Club is a private golf club with limited visitor access. Accommodation is available in the Lodge all suites and Cottages. Membership is by invitation only.

KDP is the master developer of Kiawah Island, a 10,000-acre sea island located 21 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to Doonbeg Golf Club, the company’s affiliates include Kiawah Island Real Estate; The Kiawah Island Club, which encompasses the Tom Fazio-designed River Course, the Tom Watson-designed Cassique Golf Course, the Beach Club, and Sasanqua, the members-only spa; and Freshfields Village, a 350,000 sq.ft mixed use shopping centre.
