Popular Derbyshire club comes up for sale

11.23am 10th October 2023 - Property

Horsley Lodge Golf Club in Derbyshire has been put up sale for the first time in its 33-year history, with offers invited in excess of £3.25m for the freehold property, which is also a popular wedding and events venue.

Brought to market by HMH Golf & Leisure, the highly profitable golf hotel and wedding/events business is situated 15 minutes from the centre of the city of Derby, 20 minutes from the M1, and within easy reach of Nottingham and the Peak District National Park.

Under the same family ownership since it first opened in 1990, Horsley Lodge is set in 159 acres and comprises an 18-hole, 6,544-yard golf course, which was designed by Peter McEvoy; floodlit driving range, practice ground, large clubhouse with extensive wedding/event accommodation, 14 ensuite letting bedrooms and golfers’ facilities.

Owners Richard and Malcolm Salt said: “After 33 very happy years owning and managing here, we have come to the very difficult decision, partly driven by difficult family health issues, to retire. The new owner will inherit a loyal membership and a dedicated team, all of whom have been key to Horsley Lodge’s success. We have every confidence that the business will continue to flourish under new ownership, and the transition to the new owner will undoubtedly aided by the skilled management team that will remain with the business.”

Ben Allen, director at HMH Golf & Leisure, added: “Horsley Lodge represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a long-established, highly profitable business with true lifestyle appeal. The property has been developed to a high standard and still offers opportunity for growth through further diversification of the facilities.

“While Horsley Lodge is undoubtedly a wonderful golf club, the business’ reputation in the local marketplace as an established dining and events venue means that it is so much more than just a golf club. A six-bedroom house set within the grounds, and two parcels of agricultural land, are also available by separate negotiation. We expect strong interest in the property from a wide range of buyers.”
