New Owner for Hawkstone Park

8.39am 2nd August 2000 - Property

Hawkstone Park Golf Course and Hotel in Shropshire has been bought by 29 year old entrepreneur Mark Boler for an undisclosed sum. Mr Boler, who already owns Mere Golf and Country Club in Chseshire, acquired Hawkstone Park from Ellerman Investments Ltd, a company owned by the Jersey based Barclay family.

Hawkstone Park has two 18 hole golf courses. In addition there is a six hole academy together with a 65 bedroom hotel and historic park.

Boler has run Mere for over seven years and has spent over £4 million redeveloping the course and facilities. The two golf courses were linked before. In the mid ‘eighties Hawkstone bought Mere Golf and Country Club and then afterwards sold it to Mr Boler’s late father, Stephen.

“I see Hawkstone Park as a tremendous opportunity,” commented Mark Boler. “I want to emulate the success I have achieved at Mere and I intend to invest my time and experience in revitalising Hawkstone Park, returning it to its former position as one of the finest locations in the country. I also intend to capitalise on any synergy that will exist with my two golf estates.”
