Gatton Manor Hotel and Golf Club in Surrey has been sold for more than its £3.5million asking price, after just four months on the market.

Gatton Manor, home of the PGA Surrey Open Championship 2010-2012, is situated between the picturesque Surrey villages of Ockley, Walliswood and Forest Green and just 10 miles from Dorking, in prime Surrey countryside.

The sale, achieved by joint agents Savills and HMH Golf and Leisure, consisted of an 18 hole golf course, 18 bedroom hotel and a valuable planning consent for additional bedrooms, all set in 166 acres of freehold land. During the sale period over 100 enquiries and 18 viewings were generated.

Kay Griffiths, from Savills Leisure team comments, “Gatton Manor is one of the South East’s finest golf courses located in a beautiful parkland setting.  We had anticipated strong interest from a wide range of prospective purchasers and were delighted with the number of viewings and price achieved for the vendor.”

Tom Marriott at HMH adds, “Gatton Manor has been dramatically improved over the last few years and the business showed good profits and potential for further growth – the site had the added attraction of some useful planning consents and there is no doubt that this was what drove the high level of interest. Typically profitable asset backed businesses continue to attract strong interest in a time of uncertainty. We are finding that there is no shortage of cash buyers for assets of this quality.”

  • Congratulations to Patrick and Belinda Kiely on the sale of Gatton Manor, they did a great job of turning Gatton Manor from a run down forgotten country club into a pure Surrey gem. Well done and greatly deserved. Matt Nicholson Golfnews.

  • Yes I’d like to echo those comments, now a great course and a lovely venue, best wishes to Patrick and Belinda for whatever they do in the future, also to the new owners who have purchased a super business. Chris Buckle, E-Z-GO.

  • I worked at Gatton Manor under Linda Heath and Patrick and I was a member for 4 years after. The improvements they made to the course and clubhouse were extremley impressive and i can see why they managed to make such a good profit despite the economic climate. It will be interesting to see how the new owner continues to maintain this upward trend.

  • Impressive to achieve more than the asking price – what were the agents thinking? We will keep an eye on developments and review for our golf guide.
