This is a rare opportunity to lease a well-established 18-hole golf course with a good modern 3-bedroom house, with outstanding views, in a popular holiday area. The club is operated as a proprietary members‘ club with green fee players and societies welcome
Axe Cliff Golf Club is let to a company that operated a nearby holiday village in Seaton. They acquired the lease of the golf club to run with this business. They have sold their holiday village business and terms have now been agreed for them to surrender their lease. A new 15-year lease is offered at an annual rent.
Axe Cliff Golf Club is in a spectacular location on the cliff top between Axmouth and Seaton – overlooking Lyme Bay. It is reached by a private tarmac drive, which goes uphill to the car park from the B3174. The nearby town of Seaton is a traditional seaside resort. Seven miles to the east is Lyme Regis which has World Heritage Site status. The area is a popular holiday area for long and short breaks.
The land extends to 33.4 hectares (82.5 acres). The original 9-hole course was constructed in 1894. James Braid advised on the course extension in 1929. Various alterations have been carried out over the years. The present 18-hole course has a length of 5,969 yards par 70 from the white tees.
There is a hydrant point for irrigation at each green supplied by water from a private system. The soil is free draining so the course rarely closes due to rain.
The clubhouse facilities are in two buildings separated by a modern 3-bedroom house. It is close to the tarmac car park which has 62 marked parking spaces. The men’s changing rooms and the professional’s shop (currently unused) are in a modern building constructed of rendered block under a tiled roof. The ladies‘ changing room, social and administration facilities are provided in an older building that has been extended on a number of occasions over the years.
