Fairmont St Andrews, the luxury accommodation provider at the Home of Golf, has appointed Amy Yeates to the position of director of golf at the five-star resort.
Sussex-born Yeates, 30, will be responsible for the entire golf function at the resort and brings to the role extensive sales and operational experience gained in the last 10 years. A PGA professional, with a BA in sports management, Yeates began her career at The Belfry before moving back to Kentucky, in the USA – where she had completed her degree – to work as tournament co-ordinator on the 2008 Ryder Cup.
She returned to the UK in 2008 to take up the position of golf business development manager, for Exclusive Hotels’ Mannings Heath and Manor House golf clubs, before heading to the Home of Golf in 2010, for a similar role at the Old Course Hotel & Spa. And she has spent the last four years back down south as assistant manager at the prestigious Goodwood Estate.
She said: “This was a great opportunity for me to head back to the Home of Golf. It’s an exciting role at a very exciting time, with the Open Championship in St Andrews this summer, while the new owners here at Fairmont St Andrews have some amazing plans for the venue.
“I’m looking forward to playing a part in what will be a very busy and successful summer at the resort.”
Stig Castoe, interim general manager at Fairmont St Andrews, added: “This is a big appointment for Fairmont St Andrews as the new director of golf needed to be a forward-thinking person with a proven track record of increasing golf business, while maintaining high standards across the golf function.
“And we believe we have found the ideal person in Amy, who has demonstrated these qualities in abundance in her previous positions. We wish her well and hope her association with Fairmont St Andrews is a long and mutually beneficial one.”
The multi-award-winning Fairmont St Andrews sits in a majestic cliff-top location overlooking the North Sea and the historic ‘Auld Grey Toon’.
Voted IAGTO’s European Golf Resort of the Year in 2012 and winner of the award for ‘best large hotel’ in the 2014 Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, the resort boasts two championship golf courses – The Torrance and The Kittocks – and has played host to a number of prestigious events, including both the Open Championship’s final local qualifying and the Scottish Senior Open, which it has hosted for the past six years.
In addition to golf events Fairmont St Andrews has also hosted some of the world’s most important politicians and powerbrokers as a venue for both Northern Ireland peace talks and a G20 Summit.
The resort has also welcomed the likes of Kofi Anan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – who frequented the hotel bar during their courtship at St Andrews University – and a multitude of celebrities and sports stars.
As well as exceptional golf and a world-class spa, Fairmont St Andrews includes award-winning dining, luxurious guest accommodation and exceptional service, as well as unfettered access to the charms of the old town of St Andrews itself, the unique Home of Golf.
