Yas Links Abu Dhabi, the critically acclaimed championship course and the UAE’s newest, has expanded its Golf Academy teaching team with the appointment of Liam Cregan as PGA Golf Professional.

Liam, who teed off in his new role on April 17, brings 13 years of golfing experience to the highly acclaimed Middle East golf club – the first links course in the region. He arrives at Yas Links having previously benefited from a seven-year spell as PGA Golf Professional at The Belfry, teaching a wide range of golfers, including elite county players, beginners, juniors and corporate groups. He earlier gained a BA (Hons) degree in golf management.

Liam specialises in golf tuition and the custom fitting of equipment, and has been fortunate to learn from PGA Professional mentors such as Alistair Davies, the Ladies European Tour Coach, and Master Professional Gary Allis.

“I am delighted to take up this challenging role at such a prestigious golf club as Yas Links, and at such an exciting time in its young history,” said Liam Cregan. “The club has already carved out an enviable global reputation thanks to its spectacular championship golf course and world-class Golf Academy facilities, and I look forward to helping my colleagues build the club into one of the very finest, not just in this region but the world.”

He added: “Many of our visitors, including leading European Tour Pros, have shown they are keen to take advantage of our state-of-the-art Golf Academy and practice facilities – and I look forward to welcoming and working with golfers of all abilities to help fine-tune their game.

“Observing PGA Professionals such as Alistair Davies and Gary Allis has given me comprehensive understanding of the golf swing, and allowed me to develop my own teaching ethos and style. I focus on providing my student with a clear and concise understanding of their golf swing with listening and communicating at the heart of my teaching.”

Chris White, General Manager of developer Aldar Properties (Golf Division), said: “We are extremely pleased to have Liam on board.  Liam brings a wealth of experience and a first-class grounding with him, and will undoubtedly prove a major asset as we seek to enhance our outstanding Golf Academy team.”

Yas Links’ exceptional teaching and practice facilities include a nine-hole, par-3 Academy course, floodlit driving range, hitting bays, short-game chipping and bunker practice zone, and two indoor swing studios, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the Arabian Gulf.
