World record attempt at the UK Golf Show

12.40am 10th November 2006 - People

Golfing trickster David Edwards will attempt to set a new world record at the inaugural UK Golf Show, held from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th November at Birmingham’s NEC. David aims to ‘tee off’ as many golf balls as possible in three minutes using two clubs at the same time!
With only three official ‘Guinness world records’ currently set by golfers and none of these in the UK, visitors will be in for a real treat if David is successful. The current records set are for the longest golf cart, the most times a golfer can score their age and below, both held by Americans, and the most holes of miniature golf played as a four ball in 24 hours, set in Germany. There is an unofficial record similar to the one David is attempting which stands at 244 balls in three minutes that David hopes to smash. He will be encouraging visitors to The UK Golf Show to set their own golfing world records as well as teaching them some of his amazing trick shots.
David uses clubs of all shapes and sizes to propel the golf ball some amazing distances in his trick shot show, even using members of the audience as tees. His collection of golf ‘clubs’ include a jack-hammer, umbrella, fishing rod, hinge woods, a selection of drivers, some of which are over two metres long, just a few of the range of clubs that can be found in his bag.
He is a former European Tour player and has competed in the Open Golf Championship and three PGA Championships. In 2002, David was elected Captain of the Lincolnshire PGA together with the prestigious role of Captain of the Midland Region of the Professional Golfers Association. He has over 30 years experience as a professional golfer with a tournament career that took him to top events in both the UK and Europe.
Covering over 10,000 square metres, The UK Golf Show is a fully interactive fun and informative event for all the family. From the would-be start-up golfer to the all weather golfing professional, there is something for everybody at this year’s show including a 30-bay driving range, indoor putting green, a chipping area, fashion shows, a seminar theatre and big prize interactive competitions.
Top professional golfers and golfing organisations will be on the live seminar stage as will the latest golfing fashions with daily fashion shows. Young Masters Golf will be holding seminars aimed specifically at children and lady golfers while those looking to pick up a few hints and tips can speak to some of the country’s top ‘swing doctors’.
The De Vere Belfry Retail Outlet will provide everything the golfer needs and major manufacturers such as PING, TaylorMade and Callaway will all have technical advisors on hand to help you select the right equipment.
Tickets for The UK Golf Show are priced at just £6 for children and £10 for adults when booked in advance, or £7.50 for children and £12.50 for adults on the door. For more information, visit www.theukgolfshow.co.uk or call 0870 352 2222.
