WinstonuniversityWINSTONuniversity launches the Walter Woods Scholarship for its full time Executive Program beginning in October 2013. The award is designed for young people who love the game of golf and who wish to embark on a career in golf management.

Walter Woods was a renowned Course Manager for 33 years, and in 1996 retired after 21 years as Superintendent of St Andrews Links Trust, a period that included preparing for 4 Open Championships.

WINSTONuniversity has a unique approach to learning, utilising its word-wide network of expertise and experience to deliver case study classes that promote problem solving and communication skills.

Based at the one of the finest golf courses in Europe, WINSTONgolf is a 45 hole golf complex that hosts the WINSTONgolf European Tour Seniors Open on September 6th -9th. This real world campus provides the perfect learning environment for understanding how the modern golf operation can adapt to the expectations of today’s golfer.

In launching the Scholarship, Ian Butcher Director of WINSTONuniversity said: “We believe Walter is an inspiration for those who wish to make golf their career. Through dedication, integrity, and a wonderful sense of the values of golf, he took forward not just his own facility, but the game of golf itself. He communicated the Spirit of St Andrews around the world, and now the Scholarship Fund will ensure his legacy endures through the next generation.

“We know there is a demand out there for talented young graduates who can contribute to an organisation’s long-term success, and sending them on their way with Walter´s endorsement behind them, combined with the real world skills we teach, will go a long way to securing them the best jobs.”
