Windermere Golf Club has announced the appointment of new Chairman, Cliff Heath, heralding an exciting new era for the historical club, recently named a ‘miniature Gleneagles’, by the golfing press.  It is hoped the appointment of Heath, voted in at the club’s recent AGM, will breathe new life into the club, which, like many UK golf clubs, has found the effects of the recession challenging.

A member of Windermere golf club for more than 34 years, Heath’s experience of the industry is immeasurable, serving as Cumbria County Captain from 2005 and leading the team to victory in 2009 at both the Northern Counties Stroke play and Match play championships for the first time in 99 years’.  In 2011, he was elected the County Golf President. Having managed a Lancashire acrylics company with a £187 million turnover and more than 2000 employees’ during the latter stage of his career, it is hoped his extensive management skills will drive the business forward.

“I am extremely proud to be a member of this club and delighted to take the reins as Chairman.” said Heath.  “Firm but fair management, focusing on long term planning and enabling all members to contribute their views, are, I believe, key to the success of the club’s future.  Windermere golf club is one of the finest in the county and I am confident of creating a happy, dynamic and prosperous club for everyone.”

“We are so pleased that Cliff has taken on the position of Chairman.” said Club Captain, Mike Todd.  “His level of experience, both on and off the course, is vital to the club’s success and we very much look forward to working with him.”

Windermere Golf Club is situated in the heart of the Lake District, with breathtaking views across the fells and surrounding area.  Recently referred to as a ‘miniature Gleneagles’ by the golfing press, the club was established in 1891 and has more than 700 members across all age ranges.

Despite Cumbria’s wet weather, Windermere Golf Club is played all year round, with an extensive ‘greens improvement’ operation undertaken in 2005 at a cost of £750,000 and built to USGA standards.

Renowned PGA Head Professional, Simon Edwards, provides exceptional tuition at the club, having worked with some of the world’s finest teachers such as Jim Flick, David Leadbetter and Dave Pelz.
