West Byfleet Golf Club in Surrey has appointed Richard Pennell as its new general manager following the retirement of Kevin Mullen.
Mullen served in the role for six years and has stepped down to retire.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Under his leadership, Kevin has steered the club through Covid and leaves it in great health with a full membership and a course in better shape than ever. We wish him a well-deserved and very happy retirement.”
Pennell, who starts his new position on September 5, has been employed as West Byfleet’s Membership Secretary since 2022. A very experienced club manager, he previously served as general manager at Woking Golf Club (2017-22) and Assistant Secretary at Royal Wimbledon from 2015-17. He started out in the golf industry as a greenkeeper, first working at Mitcham Golf Club in Surrey before moving to the New Zealand Golf Club.
A spokesperson for West Byfleet said: “Richard’s experience in the industry and passion for our course make him the perfect fit, and we can’t wait to have him at the helm.”
