The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) welcomed David Johnson and Todd Schoeder as new Associate members to its ranks at the group’s recent 70th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Their elections increase the number of ASGCA members who practice around the world to nearly 180.
- Johnson spent eight years working in the design offices of ASGCA Past President Bob Cupp, ASGCA Fellow, and a year with the late Willard Byrd, ASGCA. He spent time as a site superintendent for Medalist Golf, Inc. and opened David Johnson Golf Design in 2000. His representative courses include: Belmont Lake Golf Club, Rocky Mount, North Carolina; The Hooch Golf Club, Duluth, Georgia; Farmstead Golf Links, Calabash, North Carolina; Kershaw Golf Club, Kershaw, South Carolina (9-hole addition); and Ford’s Colony Country Club (Marsh Hawk Course), Williamsburg,
Todd Schoeder Virginia (major 18-hole remodel).
- Schoeder worked for five years for John Fought, ASGCA, and then for Design Workshop for 10 years leading their golf design studio before opening iCon Golf Studio in 2010. Prior to receiving his Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Todd worked for Wadsworth Golf Construction Company. His representative courses include: Glacier, and Cliff’s Courses, Durango, Colorado; Lodestone Golf Course, McHenry, Maryland; Cimarron Golf Resort, Cathedral City, California; and Trophy Lake Golf and Casting Club, Port Orchard, Washington.
Candidates for Associate membership in ASGCA complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of four completed courses, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities. This process typically takes two years for an applicant to complete.
