Thornbury GC appoints new general manager

10.35am 9th May 2024 - People

Thornbury Golf Centre, owned and operated by Burhill Group Limited, has announced the appointment of Caroline Williams as its new general manager.

The appointment comes as the Bristol-based club looks to build on an extensive investment programme and facility enhancements made in 2023, which included a £400,000 driving range revamp.

Williams arrives at Thornbury with a wealth of experience, having built her career in a variety of roles across several sports, including a spell at Glamorgan County Cricket Club when they hosted the Ashes series back in 2009. Williams also held positions at Chepstow Racecourse, gaining experience in sales and operations.

Williams commented: “It was really appealing to me that this job was centred around a different sport. This opportunity will give me exposure to something new which is truly exciting – I hope to bring some of the skills I’ve learnt in my previous roles to Thornbury to continue enhancing the member and guest experience.

“The first project on my agenda is the refurbishment of the bar, as well as the on-course irrigation programme. We have some fantastic facilities here at Thornbury, so taking further advantage of our off-course offering is something that I’m really keen to explore down the line.”

She added: “Seeing other venues within the BGL group has been hugely beneficial, to give me an idea of things that I can also implement here at Thornbury. I feel genuinely excited to get up and drive in to work every day, there is plenty of enthusiasm that comes with making positive change. The members here at Thornbury are eager to see the benefits of the investments implemented in 2023; they can see that BGL, the club’s owners, care deeply about the venue, and continue to explore the potential that Thornbury Golf Centre has for the future. I’m excited to be part of that journey and implore anybody looking to enjoy a round of golf in a friendly environment to come and visit us.”

In 2023, BGL invested upwards of £1 million into Thornbury Golf Centre. £400,000 of this was injected into its driving range, installing Trackman Range technology in every bay and increasing the services available for users. In addition, there was a £50,000 investment made into the accommodation options on-site and a £750,000 expenditure into the golf course irrigation system.
