Royal Norwich Appoints New CEO

Royal Norwich, one of the region’s leading golf and hospitality venues, is delighted to announce the appointment of James Stanley as its new Chief Executive Officer.

James, who is joining the team full-time in the autumn, has over 20 years’ experience of working in the hospitality, events and consumer experience sectors. Formerly he was the UK Managing Director of the Sports & Leisure division of Sodexo working with sporting venues and clubs and major events bodies including Royal Ascot, Chelsea Flower Show and the Open Championship.

“I am delighted to welcome someone of James’ ability to the Royal Norwich team,” said the Chairman, David Coventry. “We have been on a spectacular journey over the last five years as we’ve looked to pioneer the way golf and hospitality are delivered together. However, this is the start of the journey as we look to continuously improve and evolve the experiences our members and guest have. The expertise and skills James will be bringing will help us further develop our hospitality and events, alongside building on the reputation the course has gained as a leading golf destination in the UK.”

James commented “The vision and ambition at Royal Norwich is genuinely innovative and inspiring. At its core the desire to be the template for the modern golf club is something that is tremendously exciting and creates a blueprint for the future success of golf organisations around the world. As the CEO I look forward to playing may part in continuing this vision and developing a strategy which supports the Board’s long-term objectives.

“The development of this vision can only be achieved through the work of the whole team though, and I am particularly excited about working with the Royal Norwich staff and the members. Collectively I hope we can continue to deliver the benchmark facility that the region deserves.”

James is currently a management consultant working with clients and boards across a range of industries including sport, major events, higher education, media and corporate institutions. He specialises in advising and delivering strategical development, alongside change and improvement programs. In 2019 James was appointed a Trustee of Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation.

Sarah, James and their daughters Olivia and Emily currently live in Hampshire but will be moving up to Norfolk over the next few months.
