Royal Mid-Surrey appoints new Marketing Manager

1.40pm 15th March 2021 - People

Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, the 36-hole facility located close to central London in Richmond, has appointed Simon Fowler as its new Membership & Marketing Manager.

Fowler began his new role earlier this month, succeeding Paul Crowe, who left the club after four years to become general manager at Royal Winchester Golf Club.

A former general manager at Sherfield Oaks GC in Hampshire, Fowler has been involved in the golf industry for more than 26 years, having started PGA training at Camberley Heath GC in 1995. After qualifying as a PGA Professional, he then became Assistant Director of Golf at Pine Ridge and Director of Golf at Merrist Wood GC, before moving on to become General Manager at Milford GC. He also gained a Diploma from CMAE, having attended MDP 1,2 & 3.

“I’m really excited to be working at one of the most inclusive and popular golf clubs in the country with a full Membership capacity in every category, even before the recent lockdown periods boosted greater interest,” said Fowler. “My ambition is to enhance the members’ experience at one of the most famous ‘Royal’ golf clubs in the world and to raise the profile of its two high quality courses even further.”

Commenting on the appointment, General Manager Carl Rutherford said: “Simon has a depth of relevant experience to offer us and I’m sure he will prove to be a great addition to the team. He joins at an exciting time at the club, as we are about to welcome members back to play the courses and build on our thriving junior academy, as well as the largest women’s section in the country.”

On the day it reopened in early May last year, Royal Mid-Surrey accommodated a record 330 members playing two-ball games over the prestigious JH Taylor course. During the five-week period immediately after the lockdown was lifted, 900 members played more than 8,300 rounds on the club’s two championship courses.
