Angus Farquhar has been appointed to the new position of Commercial Secretary to the R&A, effective from 1st August 2000. This new position reflects the increasing importance of the commercial side of the R&A’s world-wide involvement in golf.

“In line with our policy of using our funds for the development of golf, we have been aware for some time that a member of staff was needed to be responsible for the commercial affairs of the R&A on a day-to-day basis,” said Peter Dawson, the R&A Secretary. “We are therefore delighted to appoint Angus Farquhar to the post of Commercial Secretary, a function he has effectively been administering for the past 18 months in tandem with his position of Assistant Secretary (Championships).”

The Commercial Secretary will report directly to Peter Dawson. He will be in charge of the commercial fund raising activities of the R&A through licensing, merchandising, brand development, publishing, television, radio and internet contracts and all new business ventures.

Angus Farquhar, 35, is a native of St Andrews and gained a degree in psychology at Edinburgh University. Following study leading to a post graduate degree in marketing at Strathclyde University he joined the R&A staff in 1989. He was appointed Assistant Secretary (Championships) in January 1993. He now lives in Perth and is a member of the New Golf Club, St Andrews.
