Golf course irrigation consultant, Philip York, was named “Personality of the Year” during the British Turf & Landscape Irrigation Association’s (BTLIA) annual awards ceremony held at BTME in Harrogate today.
The award, which was presented by BTLIA chairman Tim Hooper, acknowledged Philip York’s personal contribution, made over a period of many years, promoting both the UK’s fine turf irrigation industry and the Association.
Philip York, who acted as founder chairman when the BTLIA was formed in 1976, said that he was extremely pleased to receive the award. “It is equally pleasing,“ he added, “to note that following long years of hard work, many of the Association’s original objectives to set professional standards within the industry are now being achieved. Much remains to be done, especially educating newcomers to the industry of the benefits provided by membership of the Association.”
John Shildrick Memorial awards (educational) were gained by the British Institute of Golf Course Architects and Warwick College. Tim Hooper also presented Merit awards to M J Abbott Limited and to Irriturf.
