The EGCOA has announced the 2011 EGCOA Award that will be received at this year’s European Golf Business conference in Marbella. Jaime Ortiz Patiño, founder and honorary president of Valderrama Golf Club will receive the award for his outstanding lifetime dedication and contribution to the development and growth of golf across Europe, most notably in Spain.
For well over 30 years Jaime Ortiz-Patiño has been a major advocate for golf and environmental awareness and action in world golf. He brought the Ryder Cup for the first time to the continent in 1997 resulting in an unforgettable victory for Europe. Bringing the Ryder Cup to Spain had a huge impact on Spain as a golf destination and also made the Ryder Cup more European than ever before.
The EGCOA together with the SGCOA will also be awarding a number of leading Spanish golfing industry professionals at the event for their outstanding contribution to the Spanish golfing industry. Gonzaga Escauriaza (President of the Spanish Golf Federation), Ricardo Arranz (Owner and Chairman of Villa Padierna Golf Club), Daniel Asis (President Club Managers Association Spain), Joaquín Castillo (GM Madrid Golf Club) and Hugo Costa (General Manager Canal+ Golf) will all be in attendance to receive their 2011 honours at the Don Carlos Resort.
