Scottish golf merchandise specialist Paterson Golf is entering a new era in its 40-year history, with long-time owner Brian Wilson retiring from the business and handing leadership to his son, Fraser Wilson.

The transition ensures the family-owned company, which has built a strong reputation supplying personalised golf products to clubs, resorts and corporate events across the UK and Europe, will remain under family ownership.

Based in Glasgow, Paterson Golf has spent more than four decades supplying branded golfing accessories, including headwear, luggage, towels, gifts and promotional merchandise. Operating from its 7,500-square-foot headquarters, the company combines embroidery and print production facilities with warehousing and distribution to provide customised products for the golf industry.

Brian and his wife, Louise, have owned and managed the business for the past 30 years, overseeing significant growth and establishing Paterson Golf as a trusted supplier to golf clubs and golf-related businesses throughout the UK and beyond. While the couple will remain involved during a handover period, both intend to step back from the day-to-day running of the company during 2027.

Fraser officially assumed responsibility for the business on July 1. A graduate of the University of Strathclyde with an honours degree in Business, the 32-year-old has spent the past eight years building a successful career in IT sales in London before deciding to return to Scotland to lead the family business.

Speaking about the transition, Fraser acknowledged the company’s long-standing reputation within the golf industry. “I know the good reputation Paterson has in the industry, so it is a bit daunting to be taking over the responsibility of maintaining that reputation, and hopefully building on it, but I am relishing the challenge,” he said.

The succession marks a significant milestone for the Scottish company, with the second generation now taking responsibility for steering the business through its next phase of growth while maintaining the customer service and product quality that have underpinned its success for more than four decades.

With continuity of ownership assured and an experienced management team remaining in place during the transition, Paterson Golf is well positioned to continue serving golf clubs, resorts and corporate clients with its range of personalised merchandise and branded accessories.

Brian and Louise will be very much involved in the handover but will both welcome taking a back seat when it comes later in 2027.
