New opportunities for golf pro’s as PGAE brings in the specialists

12.01am 11th July 2000 - People

Extensive negotiations spread over many months have reached a far-reaching fruition with the announcement that the Professional Golfers’ Associations of Europe and specialist leisure recruitment company, Portfolio International, have agreed a partnership that instantly opens up unprecedented career opportunities for the PGAE membership.

Twelve thousands professionals across thirty-three countries have been invited to submit their CV’s to be filed in Portfolio’s database and thus immediately become possible targets for employers with vacancies to fill.

Large numbers of individuals have already seized the chance of opening up new horizons by placing their CV’s on the database, in the knowledge that they could now be interviewed for openings of which they would previously have had no knowledge.

By joining forces with recruitment experts the PGAE is providing its members with a wide ranging professional career service that would be unattainable within its own staff resources. The recruitment process covers every conceivable search-and-interview technique that modern methods can harness, leaves no stone unturned in matching vacancies with the most suitable applicant and is the speediest and most convenient manner for all concerned.

The Portfolio side of the link-up will be managed by the company’s golf consultant, PGA member Mark Vickery. Mark’s own CV lists twenty years experience of golf operations including appointments as Director of Golf at Disneyland Paris and at Royal Westmoreland in Barbados. This experience as a golf professional makes him, the PGAE believes, an ideal person to understand and empathise both with the job-seekers and the potential employers.

“While our database of job-seekers had become extensive, we have never been able to secure the number of job opportunities necessary to avoid disappointing the majority of professionals who hoped we might find for them their ‘dream move’,” explained PGAE Secretary, Lawrence Thornton. “In lengthy and detailed discussions with Mark Vickery, whom I knew already, it became increasing clear that Portfolio, especially with Mark as our contact, could provide the kind of career service I have always wanted to offer our members.”

Portfolio International was established in 1985 to provide professional recruitment expertise to the expanding hotel, catering and leisure industries. The company is located in London’s Chancery Lane and has associate companies in Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, San Francisco and Hong Kong.

Vacancies for Head Professionals, Teaching Professionals or Directors of Golf will be on offer from Portfolio’s ever-expanding list of clients in search of just the right person for the duties that their establishment requires.

The service is free to members though not, of course, to establishments seeking an employee. The PGAE will continue to provide the legal, financial and country information support packages that are so invaluable to families undertaking such a major upheaval in their lives.
